AASECT Annual Conference, June 3rd-7th, 2015, Minneapolis

Modern Institutes for Sex Therapy Training's CEO and Director, Richard Siegel, will be presenting with his brother, Larry Siegel, faculty member and Sexuality Educator, on "Sexological Approaches to Problematic Sexual Behavior" on Friday, June 5th from 2:45 - 4:45, during the AASECT Annual Conference in Minneapolis, MN.

Workshop Description: While “sex addiction” continues to dominate popular culture, treatment seems to be solely focused on broadly applying the “addict” label and funneling patients toward 12-Step groups, leading to patients to view their sexuality as pathological. Through lecture and case presentations, this session will help clinicians develop a more sexological approach to the diagnosis and treatment of problematic behaviors, including sexual compulsivity and impulsivity, paraphilias, infidelity and pornography.

Training Objectives: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to (a) utilize a more sexological approach to the diagnosis and treatment of problematic and compulsive behavior, particularly as they impact relationships; and (b) develop a strategy of sex therapy that uses whatever the crisis an individual or couple brings into therapy as a catalyst for change.

Footnote:  The Siegels acknowledge, with deep admiration and gratitude, the pioneering and foundational work of Dr. Eli Coleman, whose work has inspired and influenced much of this presentation.  Dr. Coleman is the director of the Program in Human Sexuality at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and Richard Siegel is especially thrilled to have the honor of introducing Dr. Coleman at his presentation, "Complexities and Challenges in Diagnosing Impulsive/Compulsive Sexual Behaviors," with Dr. Nancy Raymond, MD, on Saturday, from 2-4pm.
